The versatility of rice is incredible. As a staple in many countries, it is found in endless dishes, both sweet and savory. As a staple, most countries grown their own rice. Everywhere in the world, along with the many varieties of rice, any type of rice is grown wither organically or conventionally. Now what does this mean and how does it affect the rice?

Organic vs Conventional Rice:

  • Organic farming means that crops are grown without chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers work with the ecosystem, giving each crop natural resources to grow crop. Along with this, the same crop is not grown over and over again on the same soil in repetition. Rather, other crops are grown in a cycle in the same soil allowing nutrients to return to the soil and avoid erosion. This further minimizes the need for synthetic fertilizers, allowing each crop to intake as many natural nutrients from the soil possible, rather than toxins.

  • Conventional farming on the other hand, utilizes chemicals and pesticides, and sometimes even artificial resources, to grow crop. The use of chemicals and additives cause side effects in the long run for both the crop and environment.
